THE NOMINEES ARE…
The shortlist announcement has been made for the 1V Community Champion Awards 2018.
There are four categories where winners will be selected from a shortlist. The 1V John Roberts Outstanding achievement Award, sponsored by Humraaz, will be pre-selected and awarded on 24th February. The Leader’s Award will be selected by the Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council. The 1V Excellence Awards will be selected by One Voice directors and presented on 24th February 2018.
Institute of the Year

The 1V Institute of the Year should be an example of how a community-based organisation should be and how to successfully interact with members of all communities to make a tangible difference. They must be aware of the issues facing Blackburn and in some way engaging with these issues. Furthermore, they must have a track record of working with many communities in Blackburn with Darwen. Organisations that enhance the standing of their local community and town will also be considered in this category.
Young Person of the Year
sponsored by Blackburn College
The 1V Young Person of the Year must have demonstrated leadership, character and service to the community of Blackburn with Darwen.
The 1V Young Person of the Year should be a role model for the community. He/she must be aware of the challenges facing young people today. Moreover he/she must have a track record of working with many communities of Blackburn with Darwen. The Young Person of the Year should show characteristics that include passion, inclusiveness and warmth, as well as determination to make their home town an even better place to live.
Man of the Year
sponsored by Kumon, Blackburn.
The 1V Man of the Year should be a role model for the whole community. He must be aware of the challenges facing the Blackburn with Darwen community and make an effort to tackle them. The 1V Man of the Year must go beyond his paid role(s) to provide a real difference to the town or profession in which he serves. Furthermore, he must have a record of working in many communities of Blackburn with Darwen.
Woman of the Year
sponsored by HPA Solicitors.
The 1V Woman of the Year should be a role model to the Blackburn with Darwen community. She is someone who has endeavored to improve the local area. Her work should inspire others to make Blackburn with Darwen a better place. The 1V Woman of the Year must go beyond her paid role(s) to provide a real difference to the town or profession in which she serves. We will also accept nominations for women who have challenged gender prejudice, and created greater cohesion opportunities in Blackburn and Darwen.
The award winners will be announced on Saturday 24th February. The winners of the above awards will be chosen by the Directors of One Voice Blackburn. The winner of the Leader’s award will be chosen by Leader of the Council, Mohammed Khan.
