One Voice Awarded BBC Children in Need Grant
One Voice Blackburn are delighted to announce that BBC Children in Need has awarded them a grant to fund the 1V Cricket Academy and help make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in Blackburn.
The 1V Cricket Academy will secure free coaching for up to 70 young people over the course of 12 months, by qualified cricket coaches. Children from the age of 6 can join the 1V Cricket Academy, which starts indoor sessions at Bangor St Community Centre, in early October.
With the support of BBC Children in Need One Voice Blackburn will be able to continue reaching out to the young people in Blackburn by funding specialist cricket coaches who will mentor and develop their cricket skills. 1V Cricket Academy will work towards helping each child realise his or her potential.
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Blackburn and the programme has been designed to provide an outlet and teach the children and young people the benefit of sport and cricket in particular. The children and young people will have exercises showing them how to bat, bowl and field. It will teach the basic rules of cricket, the equipment required and how to get and stay involved with clubs and organisations.
Chairman of One Voice Blackburn, Abrar Hussain said, “We could not reach out to the young people in Blackburn without the support of BBC Children in Need. This grant will go on to change the lives of so many young people and give them the support they need.”
BBC Children in Need funding relies on the energy and commitment of thousands of fundraisers and supporters across the UK who donate their time and money to support the Appeal. Whether it’s cake sales, wearing pyjamas to school or having a song and dance, every penny of the money raised goes towards supporting projects across the UK.
All grants go to projects working with children and young people living in the UK who may be affected by homelessness, neglect, abuse or poverty, or those who have faced challenges in their lives such as serious illness, disabilities and psychological disorders.
