The One Voice Outstanding Achievement Award will be renamed as The John Roberts Outstanding Achievement Award. It is awarded on the night of the One Voice Annual Dinner.

Cllr John Roberts, a key figure in the Borough Labour Party for decades and long-term partner of MP Kate Hollern attended the Annual Dinner since 2013, missing it in 2017 due to ill health which led to his untimely death.

The Outstanding Achievement Award has previously been won by sports volunteer Iqbal Bhai (2017) and teacher Liz Beaumont (2016).

The Annual Dinner, now in its sixth year, celebrates the work of volunteers and community workers. One Voice is a community interest company set up to improve health, empowerment and cohesion in all communities.

The 1V Annual Dinner will take place on Saturday 24th February 2018. The award will be sponsored by women’s refuge Humraaz who also supported the award in 2016.

The John Roberts Outstanding Achievement Award 2018 will be awarded to someone who has carried out a lifetime of community work in Blackburn and Darwen, and it will be awarded on the evening of the awards ceremony. The award winner is selected by the directors of One Voice Blackburn.

Zaffer Khan, Head of Communications said,

“John was a massive supporter of the One Voice Annual Dinner and the organisation itself. I recall his warm wishes at the beginning of each event and his sincere congratulatory words at the end. This is a very small piece of recognition for a man who has a left a massive gap in the community of Blackburn and Darwen.”
