The 1V Community Champion Awards 2019

The 1V Community Champions awards celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations that have excelled in community and voluntary work in Blackburn with Darwen.

All the Awards winners from 2018

There are four categories, listed below, where we ask members of the public to nominate their person/organisation for the specific award. We ask those making the nominations not to exceed 200 words when making their choices. The closing date for nominations for the 2019 awards is 11th January. A shortlist will be announced later in January 2019 for each award. The winner of each award is announced at the One Voice Annual Dinner, which will take place  on Friday, 22nd February 2019.

There are two further awards, The John Roberts Outstanding Achievement Award, sponsored by Humraaz Refuge. This award is chosen by the Directors of One Voice Blackburn. The Leader’s Award is chosen by Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Institute of the Year

The 1V Institute of the Year should be an example of how a community-based organisation should be and how to successfully interact with members of all communities to make a tangible difference. They must be able to demonstrate some level of cohesion in their work, to create a more integrated Blackburn. Furthermore, they must have a track record of working with many communities in Blackburn with Darwen. Organisations that enhance the standing of their local community and town will also be considered in this category.

Young Person of the Year

The 1V Young Person of the Year must have demonstrated leadership, character and service to the community of Blackburn with Darwen.

The 1V Young Person of the Year should be a role model for the community. He/she must be aware of the challenges facing young people today. Moreover he/she must have a track record of working with many communities of Blackburn with Darwen. The Young Person of the Year should show determination to make their home town an even better place to live.

To be considered for nomination the individual needs to be 24 years of age or under on 31st December 2018.

Man of the Year

The 1V Man of the Year should be a role model for the whole community. He must demonstrate a series of activities or programmes which have made a real difference in his community.. The 1V Man of the Year must go beyond his paid role(s) to be considered for this award. Furthermore, he must have a record of working in many communities of Blackburn with Darwen.

Woman of the Year

The 1V Woman of the Year should be a role model for the whole community. She must demonstrate a series of activities or programmes which have made a real difference in her community or the town. The 1V Woman of the Year must go beyond her paid role(s) to be considered for this award. Furthermore, she must have a record of working in many communities of Blackburn with Darwen.
