Festive Period

A local community group has launched a festive message with a difference.

As part of an ongoing community cohesion initiative, One Voice Blackburn have filmed a series of video messages entitled, ‘I’m a Muslim and I Love the Festive Period”.

The two and a half minute compilation features six members of the Blackburn Muslim community talking about their enjoyment of the Christmas period. Local personalities, school children and volunteers of community group One Voice also took part.

The organisation’s youth wing 2020 Vision planned the project, which follows their Ramadan project earlier in the year ‘I’m Not a Muslim But I Will Fast for One Day’. The Ramadan initiative has been running since 2014.

The content of the project included individuals talking about the importance of helping the elderly celebrate Christmas, and a time for togetherness, as well as the atmosphere in all communities at this time of year. There is even a mention of a turkey meal.

The video will be primarily promoted on social media. It will also be sent to various agencies to promote cohesion in the Borough.

Head of Communications at One Voice Blackburn, Zaffer Khan, said,

“The aim of the video is to break down barriers and stereotypes. Christmas is an integral part of all of our lives and as British Muslims it is a time of the year that we cherish dearly. As well as embracing the festivities, it is a great opportunity to build bridges between communities.”

One Voice Blackburn is a Community Interest Company that aspires to create an inclusive, cohesive and vibrant community in Blackburn with Darwen.
