The campaign has received unparalleled support from local businesses and has been welcomed by Age UK, Blackburn with Darwen.

Six outlets on Whalley Range are now dementia friendly venues, including Poshaak, Anisha’s Collections, Marhaba and Sultan.

Dementia friends champions, including Nazia Khan will be educating staff of the day-to-day challenges faced by those living with dementia and how they can be adequately supported.

Nazia Khan said, “It is so important to raise awareness and improve services for people with dementia.

“This training will encourage local businesses to ensure people with dementia feel understood, valued and are able to contribute to society.

“We are fully committed to making our community more dementia friendly and we encourage anybody who is interested to get involved.”

Further consultation is taking part throughout Blackburn to create more areas where business outlets are aware of the needs of those living with dementia.

A total of four dementia friends champions have been recruited by One Voice as part of the Baiter Sehat project. Over 400 dementia friends have been created by the organisation in an attempt to raise awareness of the condition in all communities of Blackburn and Darwen.
